Getting settled…

July 29, 2024

Wow!  I’m sitting in the front room, gazing out the window at the tree tops with the mountains in the distance currently obscured by fog.  Today is cool and rainy.  The cool is welcome… the rain… well Marty wanted to go fishing so it’s not so much.

What a hectic few days we have had, with more to come soon.  We picked our housing unit and went to work.  We scrubbed and vacuumed and mopped and dusted and unpacked and tried to find where to put stuff… I’m happy to say that we are pretty much done with that part of our move!  We now begin the process of making our new home just that, a home.  Due to the high costs of shipping we did not bring any art with us.  I shipped a boatload of pictures in frames and some canvas prints mixed in with some other things but they haven’t arrived yet, so our walls are bare.  I have zero doubt that over time we will accumulate new wall decor and other tchotchkes, some throws and throw pillows to add the cozy factor etc., this village as well as the surrounding ones have some amazing artisans living and working in them.

One of the things we fight is thinking that it is 5 pm only to look at the clock and find it is 10 pm, we are in the deep part of daylight summer hours and it doesn’t really get dark.  It looks like twilight around 2am but by 5:30 ish it is back to full on daylight.  It’s so weird to see people out doing stuff and realize it’s past bedtime!  Thankfully we have a blackout curtain in our bedroom!

(I will eventually hang them in the front room too, I think it messes with your circadian rhythm or something for it to not get dark).

The doggos are settling in for the most part.  Poor Bosley is a little neurotic and change makes him needier than normal 😁Xena is my chill princess though, as long as her people are around she just rolls with it.   Emma told me that a lot of people here are terrified of dogs, going back to when sled dogs were a big thing in the village.  Apparently a large number of people have been attacked/bitten and so they tend to be leary of dogs.  That does NOT stop people from having them, I see them out and about.

Monday is my first official day at work.  I have really no idea what to expect.  I still can’t access a lot of the software I need to in order to work so I guess I’ll just shoot from the hip and figure it out on the fly for now.  Looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead and making the absolute most of this opportunity, and so very glad to be with someone who not only supports this journey and me but is so very along for the ride too!

Take care peeps!  The Misadventures continue!

  1. My beautiful, brave friend. Xena may be the chill princess, but you are the warrior princess indeed. You will quickly fall into what you do best which is manage, teach, mentor and lead! So very excited to read and hear about all the adventures you will be experiencing.
